From November 20-21, in Rockville, USA, the National Cancer Institute organized the annual CISNET Consortium Forum. CISNET is an international expert network focused on modeling interventions to reduce cancer mortality (Cancer Intervention and Modelling Network). Such mathematical modeling allows for identifying the most cost-effective strategies for planning actions in the fight against cancer.

Professor M. Leja, director of the Institute of Clinical and Preventive Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences at the University of Latvia, was invited to present his results in one of the working groups focusing on gastric cancer modeling (Gastric Cancer Modeling Group), highlighting the GISTAR study conducted in Latvia and its results. In his virtual presentation, M. Leja discussed not only GISTAR but also ongoing related EU-funded studies, including EUROHELICAN and the TOGAS EU project, and mentioned plans to be implemented in the EUCanScreen project in the area of gastric cancer prevention.

"The presentation was highly praised, acknowledging that the research conducted in Europe has allowed for the acquisition of data that is not yet available in the USA. The issues raised in the presentation could mark the beginning of expanding the current collaboration with the National Cancer Institute in the USA and initiating partnerships with other research organizations in the USA," emphasized M. Leja.
